Borrowdale climber seriously injured in 50ft fall

A young man from the Newcastle area has been seriously injured in a climbing accident on Shepherds Crag Borrowdale.

Keswick Mountain Rescue Team and the GNAAS Pride of Cumbria were called to the incident at 1:30pm today Saturday 5 May.

The man who is believed to be in his 20’s was attempting to climb Shepherds Crag when he fell.

A spokesman for the GNAAS said: “We were called to assist Keswick Mountain Rescue team and the North West Ambulance Service paramedics with a climber who had fallen approx 50ft (15mtrs).

“Aircrew Paramedics assessed and treated the patient for serious multiple including back and leg injuries.”

“Keswick MRT then extricated the patient from the bottom of the crag to the helicopter.”

The man was flown to the Cumberland Infirmary Hospital in Carlisle.
