Top German Big Band to perform in Penrith

A top youth Big Band from Germany will be doing a one-off performance at the Rheged Centre, Penrith on Wednesday 26th September.

“The Jazzgang” from Altenholz in North West Germany are currently on an exchange with Lancaster Royal Grammar School and during the time in the area will be performing free concerts in Morecambe, Lancaster, Kendal and also here in Penrith.

The conductor and founder of The Jazzgang Christian Schuh, is bringing the band back to the north of England for their fourth return visit. The band was created in 1998, and today it includes three fully-fledged bands with about 80 pupils who play according to their potential.

Over the years the big band has received awards for finishing first or second in musical competitions and besides gigs in school they have played around the World in Jazz festivals and concert like the 2004 European Day in Kiev, Ukraine.

The band will be doing a special performance between 12.30-1.30pm at Rheged on Wednesday 26th September, free entry and everyone is welcome.
