On Thursday the people of Workington, and the surrounding towns and villages that make up the Workington constituency, have a chance to make history by electing me as their MP.
As a local father of four young children, I fell into politics by the belief that local residents and future generations were being short-changed, and that I could do better than those that represent us currently.
I believe in equality of opportunity, individual freedom and benevolence. I believe in Workington, in West Cumbria and in Britain. I believe that we in Britain are good enough to govern ourselves and have no need to look to Brussels. I believe that local people are best placed to make local decisions. It is because of all of these things that I found a natural home in UKIP.
You can rest assured that I will never be ‘whipped’ by any political party to make a decision that is not in the best interests of the constituency. I’ll be open and accessible. I’ll hold regular surgeries in every town in the constituency, and my office door will be open – so that you can get the assistance you need at a time that suits you.
And I’m standing for a party that is pushing for your right to sack me if I don’t keep my promises.
Every day I’m speaking to ex-Labour voters that have been deserted, to ex-Tories that have been lied to, and to people that haven’t voted in decades – if at all. All are united in their support for me, and for UKIP, as the ones best suited to representing the constituency while putting the future of you and your family first and foremost.
In May last year, across the entire borough of Allerdale, we were only 59 votes short of beating Labour. Many of you will already have cast your vote for me by post, for which I’m thankful and humbled, but for those that haven’t I ask you to put your trust in me – I won’t let you down.
