Allerdale Borough Council’s waste teams are removing flood-related debris and water-damaged furnishings from properties across the borough.

Those affected are asked to email the Council’s Customer Services officers on customer.service@allerdale.gov.uk or call 01900 702800 if they need assistance so that crews can be directed to the areas most in need. Leave your name, address and details of items to be collected.

Customer Services advisors are available until 4pm today [Sunday], from 8.45am to 6pm tomorrow [Monday] and from 8.45am to 5.15pm from Tuesday to Friday – these opening hours may be extended if necessary.  The phone lines are usually busiest at 9am and lunchtimes so please be patient at these times and call mid-morning or after 2.30pm if possible.

As a number of roads across the area have been blocked or damaged by the flood water, crews may not be able to reach everyone immediately but are out in the worst-hit areas to find out which streets are passable.

Those needing to dispose of wet furniture, fixtures and fittings, electrical appliances, carpets, etc, can leave them at the front of their property and they will be collected. Those who need tree branches or other debris removing from their yards and gardens can also ask for that to happen. Priority will be given to properties on roads where pavements may be blocked.

The Council has cancelled all garden waste collections for the next few days to free up vehicles for the clean up campaign. Normal refuse collections will go ahead as far as possible.

People are asked to put their bins out as usual if it is safe to do so and if their properties are definitely accessible by road. We are asking everyone to be patient under these exceptional circumstances and residents and businesses are asked not to contact the Council if their bin collections are missed as crews will get to properties as soon as they can.
