Chapel Anniversary a Fitting Celebration of the Life of Appleby Methodist Church

Appleby Methodist Church

Appleby’s Methodist Church on the Sands celebrated 128 years since the building was completed over the recent weekend. A full church on the Sunday enjoyed an inspirational and uplifting service led by the Rev Richard Teal, District Chairman. Coinciding with Pentecost, Richard preached on the role of the Holy Spirit and illustrated his talk with examples of the impact the Holy Spirit makes on all our lives as Christians.

Regular worshippers and visitors were joined by Penrith Methodist Church’s Choral group who sang two very thoughtful and harmonic pieces.

On the previous Friday evening the Eden Valley Ceilidh Band with caller Douglas Chalmers played for a social event in the chapel hall when chapel members, friends and guests enjoyed an active and fun evening with superb refreshments provided by volunteers. Soloist Emma Cooper very competently sang two folk songs while the dancers enjoyed a break.

John Morton, Minister of the Sands Appleby Chapel commented: “Chapel Anniversaries are an important reminder of the legacy we enjoy from our predecessors, but also a celebration of the current life of the church and an opportunity to look forward in faith. We had an enjoyable weekend with many opportunities also to reflect on what Pentecost means to us.”
