A driver who drove a bus into flood water in North Yorkshire with 23 school children on board has been sent to prison.
Bus driver, Graham Jones, 53, drove past two road closed signs between Newton-on-Ouse and Tollerton before getting stuck in flood water on 5 January.
He was found guilty of dangerous driving at York Crown Court today.
Jones, of Linton Woods Lane, Linton-on-Ouse, was jailed for 12 months and handed a 36-month driving ban.
The bus was transporting the pupils to Easingwold School following the Christmas break.
A police spokeswoman said: “The outcome of this case reflects the gravity of the situation, the potential consequences, and how serious the court took this incident.
“It should send a clear warning to drivers not to ignore road closure signs that are put in place to protect people, and to heed the dangers of driving through flood water.”
The police in-car footage as they arrived at the scene.
