A star saxophonist from Cumbria who’s made her mark on the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition will be helping guests at the Lakeside Hotel & Spa to celebrate Christmas and New Year with two informal performances over the festive season.
18-year-old musician Jess Gillam made history as the first ever saxophonist to win the Woodwind Final of the prestigious BBC competition. She is the Young Ambassador for the Ulverston International Music Festival and has played live with an array of big names, including Jools Holland and his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra.
Jess will be back on home turf to play informally for guests at the Lakeside Hotel & Spa as they arrive for their Christmas and New Year breaks on 23 and 30 December 2016. The sessions will include some smooth jazz tones and seasonal favourites underneath Lakeside’s enormous Christmas tree.
Jess says, “The Lake District has such a wonderful atmosphere over the festive season, so I’m excited about coming back home to play these special sessions. The local landscape has been a big inspiration to me, so I’m looking forward to returning to this special spot near my hometown of Ulverston.”
General Manager at Lakeside Hotel & Spa, Clive Wilson, adds, “We are thrilled to welcome Jess to the hotel to play for guests as they arrive for their festive breaks. She is a huge local talent and we’re delighted she is giving her time to come and celebrate with us.”
