A new recruitment video has been launched today (5 January 2017) by North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust in a bid to attract the very best talent in the NHS to relocate to West, North & East Cumbria.
The Trust is aiming to recruit consultants, doctors and nurses to join its teams at the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle and West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven.
The video, made in partnership with Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT) and funded by the Success Regime, features staff from both hospitals as they explain why Cumbria is the ideal place to live and work. It was recently shown to potential new recruits at the Acute and General Medicine Conference in London as part of the drive to bring new staff to Cumbria.
Dr Katie Poulton, consultant emergency medical admissions, features in the video, and said: “We’re a smaller trust than other places but that means you can really get your teeth into new developments, helping improve services in a way that you wouldn’t get the opportunity to in larger tertiary centres.”
Kirstin Geer, advanced critical care practitioner said: “I started my nurse training here in 2002 and found it a really friendly, supportive place to work so I’ve stayed ever since.
“I did my degree then my masters to become a nurse practitioner and I’ve just finished my critical care practitioner training so now I’m filling in a slot on the medical rota. There is real chance for progression here.”
Stephen Eames, chief executive at North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust said: “There is a national shortage of consultants, doctors and nurses but I believe Cumbria offers a unique environment for staff both in their working and personal lives.
“Staff working here can really influence positive change and we also have fantastic training opportunities. In addition, our hospitals are located in one of the most beautiful parts of the country as the video showcases.
“This is a really exciting time for the Trust we’ve recently opened a brand new £90m hospital in Whitehaven, we continue to work closely with partners such as Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and we are about to see a major investment in our cancer services.”
Lynn Marsland, Director for Workforce and Organisational Development at CPFT and the senior responsible officer for workforce and OD for the Success Regime said: “The recruitment challenges we face in both the acute trust and in community and mental health are very similar and by working together to address the issues and attract staff to Cumbria we can offer more choice.
