Renowned Cumbrian story-teller Taffy Thomas MBE – the country’s first ever Laureate for Story Telling, is hosting two alternative Burns Night celebrations at The Lakes Distillery this year, where he will be telling tales of the mischievous local moonshiner Lanty Slee.
The Lakes Distillery’s Alternative Burns Night celebrations take place on the 20th and the 27th of January and will also provide guests with a tutored tasting session with either Paul Currie, the Founder and Managing Director of The Lakes Distillery or John Drake, the Distillery Manager, who will guide guests through a tour of exceptional whiskies including the distillery’s own The ONE – the only British blended whisky in existence.
Rather than haggis, neeps and tatties, a four course feast, overseen by Michelin-starred Executive Chef Terry Laybourne, will be enjoyed, providing guests with treats such as Jerusalem artichoke soup with truffle cream, beef fillet with braised oxtail and hot chocolate soufflé with The ONE whisky ice cream.
The Lakes Distillery is idyllically set near Bassenthwaite and is Cumbria’s first whisky distillery for over 100 years. The Bistro at the Distillery is once again featured in the Michelin Guide 2017. The Lakes Malt, Cumbria’s first malt whisky, will be available on pre sale from September 2017.
Tickets for the Alternative Burns Nights cost £45 per person. For further information and to book, please visit www.lakesdistillery.com.
