[A] PENRITH man has admitted making bogus reports to police and an insurance company that a vehicle had been stolen.
Haydn Morgan Davies, 65, faced three charges when he appeared at Carlisle Crown Court.
During a brief hearing in front of Judge Barbara Forrester, Davies pleaded guilty to careless driving in a Peugeot 406 on the A66 westbound at Skirsgill on July 29 last year.
He also admitted charges of fraud and perverting the course of public justice.
The fraud charge states that on August 1 he made a false representation to an insurance company, Ageas, that the Peugeot had been stolen and involved in a road traffic collision intending to make a gain – namely compensation – for himself.
Between that date and August 24 he also accepted perverting the course of justice by falsely reporting the theft of the vehicle to police, and provided false information when requests were made for further details.
Davies, of Howard Street, Penrith, was bailed and is due to be sentenced at the crown court on June 8.
