[T]his half-term Florence Arts Centre in Egremont are holding a free story-telling session in their secret wildlife garden.
Hosted by Becca Neal of the West Cumbria Rivers Trust families with children aged around 5 or 6 are invited to come along and hear Becca reading from her own wildlife stories, learning about the animals and plants you’ll find in West Cumbria. Children will also then get the chance to make up their own wildlife stories using story-dice and their own imagination.
There’s plenty of inspiration to be found in Florence Arts Centre’s garden which is situated in a hidden corner of the old Florence Mine site, once used as a dumping ground for rocks and unwanted waste. With a generous green grant from Nugen and a donation from Whitehaven Rotary Club, plus the hard work of volunteers from Lakes College’s Stay West Group, this path of waste ground has bene transformed into an oasis for wildlife, including native plants and herbs, a pond, bir and bat boxes and a bug mansion.
The garden is open and free for all during the centre’s regular opening hours – come along on Thursday 1 June for this special story time afternoon where you can enjoy finding out more about the wild things that live in your own back garden.
The story time takes place on Thursday 1 June and there are two sessions: 12.30pm to 2pm and 2.30pm to 4pm. They are free but places are limited so should be booked in advance on 01946 824946 or by email to [email protected]. All children must be accompanied.
