[G]ive a Day to the City 2017 is just 4 weeks away, and will take place between 24 June and 2 July.
Last year saw hundreds of people across the city of Carlisle give up their time for the benefit of others. 14 projects were delivered, ranging from clearing stones from the football pitches of the Sheepmount and refurbishing the skate park to renovating 3 uninsured flood-affected properties and hosting a street party for the Queen’s 90th Birthday for between 5-7000 people.
It was life-changing for some, and life-enhancing for all. The beautiful thing about Give a Day is that everybody gets to play, it’s about taking whatever you have in our hands and giving it away for just one day.
This year they already have some amazingly generous projects planned, from creating a dementia-friendly garden and brightening up local neighbourhoods, to creating community allotment plots and waving a magic wand over the gardens of Eden Valley Hospice.
Give a Day is about being fiercely generous across the city and they’d love to encourage more people to get involved. Maybe you have a passion to lead a project of your own – it can be as simple as hosting a tea-party for your neighbours. Alternatively, you might have a few hours to spare and want to get involved with a project that’s already taking place. If so, go to the website to find useful information, details of the projects taking place this year, and details of how to be involved.
Give a Day happens through stacks of people giving away free of charge whatever they have in their hand. Thanks go to Cumbria Community Foundation and Abbeyfield Society Community First Fund for their financial support which enables all the good stuff to happen.
