[F]our people have been rescued after getting suck in quicksand near Arnside.
Arnside & South Lakes Coastguard were called out at 1.30pm yesterday, Monday 29 May to rescue four people caught in quicksand just as a big Spring Tide was minutes away!
The four, one group of three, closer to shore and a single adult further out, had been training their dogs on the sands just off the promenade at Arnside when they heard the tide siren.
As they made their way back ashore, one of the party got stuck.
The other three then tried to help, but got stuck themselves.
Fortunately Arnside & South Lakes Coastguard Team were just about to start a Jet Ski training session along with a member of The Furness Team.
Andy Pringle, Arnside & South Lakes Coastguard said: “We were able to get to the scene very quickly and were shortly supported by BSAR, Police, Fire brigade, Ambulance and The Morecambe Coastguard Team who all helped to make the rescue a success.
“The last casualty was brought ashore as the tide swept past.
“It is a very stark reminder that we need to pay attention to the tide times and get off the sands in good time.
“Today’s incident had a positive outcome, but it could have easily been different. Please take care out on the sands.”
