[A] MAN accused of behaving violently with a chainsaw in a Cumbrian town will go on trial later this year.
Mitchell Darren Tutty, 49, appeared at Carlisle Crown Court today (FRI), via a prison video link, to face two charges. Both relate to an alleged incident which is said to have occurred in Appleby on April 27.
Tutty pleaded not guilty to an allegation of affray, and also denied having an offensive weapon – a chainsaw – in a public place. It is alleged he had the chainsaw, in the town’s Broad Close car park, without lawful authority or reasonable excuse.
During a short hearing before Recorder Julian Shaw, a timetable for the case was agreed by the respective lawyers in the case.
Tutty, of Bridge Street, Appleby, was told his trial is due to start at the crown court in the week of July 31. The hearing is expected to last three days.
In the meantime Tutty was remanded in custody.
