[A] MAN accused of attacking a grieving man hours after a family funeral has gone on trial at Carlisle Crown Court.
Dylan Wynne, 25, faces one allegation following an incident outside an address at Moor Row in West Cumbria on the night of September 13 last year. Wynne has pleaded not guilty to causing Ian Brown grievous bodily harm.
On day one of his trial today (MON), prosecutor Beccy McGregor opened the case to jurors.
Ms McGregor alleged that Wynne had punched Mr Brown – the uncle of his then girlfriend – “repeatedly to the face” and then kicked him.
Mr Brown, whose family had attended his late brother’s funeral earlier that day, was said to have been hospitalised and suffered two fractured eye sockets.
Jurors heard both men had been drinking before the incident, and that Mr Brown had “no memory” of what had happened.
Wynne, of Lakeland Avenue, Whitehaven, denies committing any crime. He admits punching Mr Brown but maintains he acted in “lawful self-defence”.
The trial continues.
