[L]ocal primary and junior schools have been invited to take part in an art competition with the theme “Railway: Past, Present and Future”.
This is one of the events being held to mark the re-opening of the Settle-Carlisle Railway between Armathwaite and Carlisle following the huge landslip at Eden Brows. The competition is open to schools in CA postcodes of the Dales Railcard area.
Over eighty schools have been invited to participate. Anne Ridley, Operations Manager of the Settle Carlisle Railway Development Company, who is organising the competition said: “This is a great opportunity for schoolchildren to use their imagination and creativity as part of their end of school year activities. We anticipate there will be drawings and paintings of trains, viaducts and local stations. There may be some great designs of trains of the future.”
The competition closes at the end of the month with winners being announced in mid-July. Some of the entries will feature on the Settle-Carlisle website and future promotional material for the line.
