[A] MAN accused of a street attack in West Cumbria has told a jury he punched out only in “self-defence”.
Dylan Wynne, 25, is on trial at Carlisle Crown Court having denied a grievous bodily harm charge. It is alleged he attacked Ian Brown who, hours earlier on September 13, had attended his brother’s funeral with other relatives.
Mr Brown was hospitalised and sustained two fractured eye sockets. He was seen by his mother after the incident to have blood “pouring from his tear ducts”.
But Wynne denies attacking Mr Brown. Giving evidence on day two of his trial today (TUES), Wynne told jurors Mr Brown was “aggressive” and abusive to him.
An incident involving the two men ended with them on the ground. Wynne admitted punching out five or six times “blindly” – but only to fend off an assault.
“Did you attack him?” asked defence barrister Greg Hoare.
“No. Self-defence,” replied Wynne, of Lakeland Avenue, Woodhouse, Whitehaven.
The trial continues.
