[O]n Saturday 24 June Keswick’s Fitz Park will be the venue for an open-air classical music concert. Featuring a range of performers starting at 3pm in the afternoon and concluding by 9.30pm.
This is a relaxed family friendly event with everyone encouraged to bring down their picnic chairs, blankets and picnics. Refreshments will also be available from festival sponsors Lake District Hotels and Grapevine.
Cockermouth Mechanics Band kick off the afternoon at 3pm with some rousing renditions of popular classics. At 5pm the stage switches its attention to Methera a local newly formed string quartet.
At 5.30pm Soprano Emily Robinson will take to the stage accompanied by Alex Phillips-Yates on Keyboard. At 6.15 we return to the strings with a solo performance by Sol Ligertwood on the Cello, followed at 6.30pm by tenor James Marczak.
At 7pm the second brass band of the day joins the stage, Burnside Brass Band will be performing for 45 minutes until the return of Methera at 7.45pm. Then as the evening builds to its crescendo at 8.15pm there will be performances by sopranos Emily Robinson and Naomi Marczak and Tenor James Marczak accompanied once again by Alex Philips-Yates. This will all lead to a grand finale in “last night of the Proms” style led by Emily Robinson and the Burneside Brass Band.
The evening will include classics from Puccini, Mozart, Strauss and Verdi along with many other pieces. The overall musical director for the evening is Shelagh Hughes who has been working on the line up for many months as well as fitting in time to rehearse with the quartet Methera.
The Prom in the Park is part of Keswick Midsummer Festival and the event is free to attend thanks to funding from the Town Council.
