[T]he driver of a car has died after a three-vehicle road traffic collision occurred on the A66 at Warcop.
Police were called at approx 4pm on Sunday 25 June after a collision occurred between two cars and a goods vehicle.
A spokesman for Cumbria Police said: “The driver of one of the cars died at the scene after being released from the vehicle by Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service.
“The driver of the other car was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle by ambulance, their condition is described as stable.
“Police officers traveled from the scene to North Yorkshire to inform relatives of the deceased.
“Formal identification will not take place until the 26 June.”
A BEEP Fund Doctor attended along with Pride of Cumbria GNAAS Air Ambulance (including two doctors & a paramedic) & NWAS land crew paramedics.
Dr Theo Weston said: “One person was very seriously injured and despite significant resuscitation efforts at the roadside was pronounced dead at the scene; three others suffered minor injuries one of whom was taken to Carlisle by ambulance.”
A spokesman for Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 15:55 firefighters were called to a road traffic collision on the A66 Brough to Kirkby Stephen.
“Three vehicles were involved – two cars and a heavy goods vehicle.
“Firefighters used specialist cutting equipment to release two casualties, one of whom was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
“The second casualty was taken to hospital.
“Land and air ambulances were also at the incident.
“Firefighters were in attendance for around an hour and a half.”
Cumbria Police are appealing for witnesses to contact 101 quoting log 177 of 25 June.
