[B]raithwaite School visited Cockshot Woods last Friday in celebration of ‘Den Day’ and to raise money for ‘Save the Children’.
The whole school including pupils and teachers, ventured to Cockshot Woods in Keswick for an exciting day of building dens and traps in aid of the Save the Children charity. Children of all ages worked collaboratively to build huge dens and design and construct their own traps.
Roy Henderson from the National Trust acted as the group’s guide and taught the children how to make arrow heads by sharpening stones using water and sandstone. To conclude the exciting events of the day, the whole school gathered to roast marshmallows over an open fire.
Jo Laker, Head Teacher of Braithwaite School said:
“It was brilliant to see the whole school coming together to work as one and learn some fabulous new skills whilst having so much fun and all for a good cause. The children had an excellent day and Roy from the National Trust brought out everyone’s inner adventurer.”
The children of Class 4 added: “Building dens and traps was a really fun way to enjoy the outdoors. We had to hunt for the natural objects to build our dens and traps too.”
Following their adventures of Den Day, Braithwaite School raised £126.00 for the Save the Children charity.
