[R]unner Charlie Thompson took a short cut to raise money for Ulverston’s St Mary’s Hospice.
Charlie, a geologist, decided to get rid of his trademark long hair in a good cause following the death of a friend, Vicky McDougall.
Vicky, of the Elder Grove guest house in Ambleside, died last month at the hospice after a short battle with cancer.
Charlie’s vow took shape at the Outgate Inn, near Ambleside, after a training session with the Wray Runners who meet each Tuesday at Wray Castle, where fellow runners wielded the scissors.
“I’d got used to having long hair, but I guess I’ll be a more streamlined runner now,” he said.
So far Charlie’s cut has raised more than £1100 for the hospice and further donations are welcome.
