[A] JUDGE accused a criminal of sticking “two fingers up to society” as he locked him up for breaching a suspended jail term.
Daniel James Roberts – a man with 57 previous offences to his name – was sentenced for his latest brush with the law at Carlisle Crown Court.
In December last year, Roberts had been given a chance and spared immediate prison for a cannabis supply crime committed outside of Cumbria.
But just six months later, in early June, police found him asleep inside a poorly parked van in Workington. He was intoxicated, kicked a PC – who sustained a dead leg – and was unruly and violent at a police station.
Roberts, aged 27, of Gatehead, Great Clifton, admitted charges of failing to provide a specimen, disqualified driving, having no insurance, PC assault and behaving violently on police premises.
Jailing Roberts for 15 months, Recorder Michael Murray told him: “All you have done, if I can use the colloquial, is to stick two fingers up to society.”
