[A] DRUG addict has been jailed for seeking to peddle heroin to a “network” of fellow users in the Carlisle area.
Police swooped on a property in the city’s Edward Street on February 8 having been alerted to possible illegal substance supply.
They went inside and found John Andrew Johnston, who had 20 wraps of heroin – worth hundreds of pounds – in the waistband of his trousers. A drug debtors’ list was also recovered, along with a mobile phone attributed to him.
Analysis of that handset showed group texts had been dispatched to almost two dozen numbers indicating that heroin was available.
Johnston pleaded guilty to possessing the class A drug with intent to supply and was sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court today (MON).
He was jailed for three years by Recorder David Potter, who heard how the 40-year-old self-employed electrician’s life had spiralled downwards after he became addicted to heroin.
Johnston, of Colville Street North, Carlisle, heard Recorder Potter describe the background of his case as “one of complete tragedy”.
