[C]ockermouth Mountain Rescue Team was called just after 5pm today, Sunday 13 August to a lone fell walker who fell around 3m, injuring his shoulder, whilst descending from Haystacks near Buttermere.
The 56-year-old man from the Wirral was helped by a number of passing walkers who also raised the alarm.
Cockermouth MRT and a team doctor treated the man for his injuries and he was winch into a Coastguard AW189 helicopter from Prestwick and flown to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle.
The rescue involved 21 members of Cockermouth Mountain Rescue team and lasted around 3 and a half hours.
Deputy Team leader Chris Cookson said: “We’d like to thank the passing walkers that stopped to help and raise the alarm, they did a fantastic job; and we’d also like to thank the crew of Rescue 199 for their assistance. The team wishes the injured walker a speedy recover.”
