[A] number of Cumbria Police officers will be joining forces in Kendal this weekend to raise money for charity.
Sixteen officers will don their cycling gear for the event at Elephant Yard on Saturday (August 19th), in aid of Macmillan Cancer.
Taking place between 10am and 6pm, two cyclists will ride as many miles as possible each hour in an attempt to tot up the Coast-to-Coast distance of 140 miles.
The fundraiser has been organised by Kendal Inspector Paul Latham and Sergeant Siraaz Patel.
Inspector Latham said: “My mum sadly died of cancer last year, so I saw first-hand the hard work that Macmillan do, and fully appreciate and understand the difference they make to people who unfortunately find themselves in that situation.
“I therefore wanted to give something back and I am really grateful for all those colleagues who have come forward to help me on Saturday. Hopefully people will come and cheer us on and donate some money to this fantastic cause.”
Lisa Wild, Macmillan’s Area Fundraising Manager for Cumbria and Lancashire, added: “One in two people are likely to get cancer in their lifetimes and it’s down to dedicated and generous fundraisers like this that we’re able to continue supporting people when they need it most.
“We believe that life with cancer is still life and with the continued support from people like these police officers, and their attempt to clock up 140 miles on their bikes, we can help people live it.”
