[A] new trail has opened in the Lake District for locals and visitors to enjoy.
Rusland Horizons worked with local landowners, apprentices, volunteers and school children from the local community to improve the rights of way on the Greenwood Trail route from Old Hall Farm to Rusland Moss and Hay Bridge.
The local community has researched the history of the trail and the features along it to produce a waterproof trail leaflet to guide walkers around the route. School children from Levens Valley and Penny Bridge Primary Schools designed the new waymarker logo.
The Rusland Horizons are now moving on to developing a second Greenwood Trail around Haverthwaite Heights and inviting more people to get involved in researching the trail and creating the next leaflet.
The team are holding a ‘Picnic Walk’ along the proposed route on Tuesday 22 August 2017 at 11am which is open to the public. A Lake District National Park Ranger will be leading the walk through woods and fields around Haverthwaite Heights. They’ll be looking out for spectacular trees, hidden ruins and local wildlife and then stopping for a picnic.
Meet at Haverthwaite Height Woods, Lane Ends, LA12 8AB, at the end of the old road, grid ref SD344 842.
