[A]t 9:17am today, Thursday 24 August firefighters were called to a large compost fire at Thackwood landfill site, Monkcastle, Southwaite.
A spokesman for Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said: “Crews, from Carlisle East, Carlisle West, Penrith and Cockermouth, are currently using two main jets to tackle the blaze and have created a fire break to stop the spread of the fire.”
