[A] man has died following a road traffic collision that occurred at around 11:50pm yesterday (12th September).
The collision involved one vehicle, a grey Range Rover, on the M6 northbound at Southwaite.
The driver, a man in his 60s from outside the county, was the only occupant of the vehicle. The family of the man have been informed.
A spokesman for Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 12:27am firefighters were called to a road traffic collision involving a single vehicle on the M6 northbound between junction 41 and 42.
“Crews, one from Penrith and one from Lazonby, found the incident involved one car which had left the carriageway.
“They used small hand tools to release a male casualty who was then taken to hospital by paramedics.
“Crews were at the scene for 45 minutes.”
Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident or anybody with any information that could assist with enquiries.
