[P]olice have this morning arrested two people in connection with an assault that occurred on Norfolk Street, Carlisle, yesterday afternoon.
Police were called at 4.27pm on 13th September following a report of a man being assaulted with a bladed weapon, believed to be a machete.
The victim, a 19-year-old man from Carlisle, was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary with serious injuries to his hand. He has since been discharged.
Enquiries have continued throughout the night and police have arrested a 25-year-old man and a 22-year-old man, both from Carlisle, on suspicion of assault GBH with intent. They are both detained for questioning.
Superintendent Matt Kennerley, Cumbria Constabulary, said: “Officers have worked throughout the night conducting enquiries into this serous assault.
“I would like to reassure members of the public that, following the arrests of two men this morning, we are not looking for any further suspects at this time.”
