[C]ockermouth Mountain Rescue Team was called out yesterday afternoon (Monday) at around 2.45pm to a male walker who was descending as part of a group towards Buttermere from the Ling Comb area.
He was unable to continue walking having suddenly become very unsteady on his legs and started shaking.
A spokesman for Cockermouth MRT said: “The team ascended from Buttermere village, initially having some issues locating the casualty amongst rough steep ground.
“He was eventually located much higher on the fell than initially reported.
“The casualty was assessed on scene by team members and a team doctor, and due to his condition and the nature of the terrain, a decision was made to seek the assistance of a coastguard rescue helicopter for evacuation.
“The team stretchered the casualty to a suitable point for a pick up and Rescue 199 from Prestwick attended and winched him on board, for transfer to Cumbria Infirmary, Carlisle for further treatment.
“The rescue took around 4 hours and involved 14 team members. Many thanks, as always, to the crew of Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 199.”
