[D]ance students at Central Academy are completing their final rehearsals in preparation for the Evolution Dance Festival at the Sands Centre on 6 October. Students will work alongside a professional production company, Rocket Theatre Group.
The Evolution Dance Fest is an annual event and replaced Dance Factor which was first staged in 2008. The event has grown each year and will include pupils from 7 Carlisle primary schools.
Jack Dunn, Owner of Rocket Theatre Group said: “Dance is a great way for young people to build their confidence and self-esteem. It is encouraging to see the event develop this year as more and more people recognise the value of performance in terms of personal and social development. Every year students set the bar higher, and this year promises to be better than ever.”
The event is likely to sell out, and a packed audience will see a range of performances and styles with music from Jazz to Pop to India and back again!. The show promises something for all ages.
Wendy Boothman, Subject Coordinator for Performing Arts at Central Academy said: “Not only will our students have the opportunity to work in a professional environment, but their performance will also be used as part of their formal assessment for their course. This opportunity is unique to our students. Performing in a professional setting in a large scale production undoubtedly improves their performance skills and confidence, our marks for Btec Dance are significantly above the National Average, with 53% of our Level 2 students gaining Distinction* grades last Summer. It will also give them a competitive edge when it comes to the next level of study. We are also delighted to see so many primary schools are taking part in this spectacular event.”
Primary Schools taking part are; Stanwix, Norman Street, Belle Vue, Inglewood Juniors, Pennine Way, Bishop Harvey Goodwin and St Margaret Marys. Tickets are on sale from The Sands Box Office.
