[A] multi-agency coordination group has been set up as partner agencies deal with localised flooding, predominately in Millom, but also elsewhere in the county.
Following persistent rainfall a number of properties have been affected in Millom. Areas affected include Mainsgate Road and Market Street.
Windermere Road, Windermere, Ings, and Kirby in Furness, have also been affected by the rainfall.
If your property has not been affected please avoid travelling if possible as a number of roads around the area have been affected. If your property has been affected please go to the Millom Fire Station. Reception centres are in the process of being set up.
Copeland Council is providing sandbags, to obtain sandbags telephone the emergency line on 0151 2956524.
The rainfall is expected to continue until approximately 2pm. The narrow band of heavy rain is moving across Windermere at this time and is moving in a North East direction. Keep up-to-date with the weather at www.metoffice.gov.uk.
Superintendent Mark Pannone, Cumbria Constabulary, said: “We have been responding to calls for service this morning due to the rainfall and some properties in Millom have been flooded.
“There is some disruption on roads across the county. We ask that those driving stay clear of the closures in place and take care whilst travelling. If you do come across a flooded road, please do not attempt to travel through as you cannot be sure of the water’s depth.”
