[O]n Saturday, 14th of October, Windermere will participate in a GLOBAL fundraising and awareness event called #WalkForFreedom. Taking place in hundreds of cities across 50 nations. The purpose of the event is to shine a spotlight on the 27 million men, women, and children who are still TRAPPED IN SLAVERY today. By fundraising and rallying thousands of people around the cause, the belief is that this event will be the catalyst for the rescue and restoration of human beings who are being exploited as commodities.
With 300 walks in 40 countries participating in last year’s event, A21, a global anti-human trafficking organisation, aims to raise even more funds and awareness with their 4th annual Walk For Freedom 2017.
“We are utterly convinced that slavery can be eradicated in our lifetime. Walk For Freedom is definitely one of the most impacting things that we do at A21. It is a tangible, practical, and doable thing for every single person. All of us can put our feet on the pavement and use our steps to make a difference,” says Christine Caine, A21’s Founder.
The Walk For Freedom’s key distinguishing factor is a single-file line of participants dressed in black, with yellow bandanas covering their mouths to represent the 27 million slaves who have no voice. As the line moves throughout each city, information about human trafficking is distributed to onlookers.
The #WalkForFreedom in Windermere will be taking place at 11:30am on the 14th October, starting at The Lakes School in Troutbeck Bridge, Windermere, and finishing at Bowness Pier around 12:30pm.
Local businesses have come on board in support, and there will be a prize draw for 4 lucky participants
