[L]ynn Shields, 28, a leader at 8th Cockermouth Guide unit has just returned from an unforgettable adventure to India.
Lynn was selected to lead this incredible trip along with two other leaders to represent Girlguiding North West England Region. The group of women lead a team of 12 Girlguiding Senior Section members aged 14 – 18, to provide the girls with this once-in-a-lifetime international opportunity.
The girls and young women explored a number of exciting cultural places including Sangam, one of the five World Guiding Centres, before starting a community action project in Jodhpur. The Mandore Project saw the girls improve the facilities in local villages and schools, from painting buildings, to laying concrete and plumbing sinks, the team transformed the local school into a haven for learning.
Lynn said: “Taking part in the community project in the rural school was a life changing experience which I feel will positively impact both the girls and the leaders for years to come. We left behind an exciting legacy that will improve the education of many disadvantaged children. Girlguiding gave us an opportunity to experience a different culture but also make a difference. It was a trip never to be forgotten.
Girlguiding gives girls and young women the chance to have fun, build friendships and make a positive difference in their community. For further information visit www.girlguiding.org.uk/joinus
