[A] man has been jailed for four years and eight months for a robbery where he stole alcohol and cigarettes from a pizza delivery driver.
Wesley Jeffrey Barnett, aged 22, of Lime Walk, Denton Holme, was sentenced today (20th October) at Carlisle Crown Court.
The sentencing follows an incident in the early hours of 18th August this year. Barnett who had recently been released from prison for robbery, contacted a pizza delivery store and asked for alcohol and cigarettes to be delivered to a property on Beverley Rise. When the driver arrived with his order, Barnett pulled a knife from his pocket and held it to the victim’s throat. Barnett then took the delivery without paying and demanded the driver to leave.
The victim left the area before contacting police.
Barnett pleaded guilty to robbery and threatening the victim with a kitchen knife at a hearing last month.
Barnett was also told that he will have an additional extended licence period of 24 months.
Detective Constable Jessica Myers, North Cumbria CID, said: “This was a frightening ordeal for the victim and thankfully he was not injured.
“I hope that at some point Barnett will take into account the fear he caused to someone who was simply doing his job.
“I would like to thank the victim for his courage shown during this investigation.
“Whilst he pleaded guilty to the offences, I would question how much remorse he has shown and deserves the sentence imposed.”
