[C]umbrian charity Team Evie is set to launch its Christmas book appeal for the third year running.
This year’s Christmas book appeal will launch on the 27th October 2017 via the charity’s website www.teamevie.org. The appeal asks people to sponsor a book which is then added to a library which is donated for use by poorly children and their families in hospital. Books from this year’s appeal will be donated to Ward 9 at the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) in Newcastle. Team Evie will personally deliver the portable library along with local story teller Steve Wharton to entertain the children on the ward.
Previously, libraries from the book appeal have been donated to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at the RVI in 2015 and Ward 10 at the RVI in 2016. Each trolley that is donated contains over 600 books ranging from babies and toddlers stories through to teenage novels. Team Evie has also provided libraries to Ward 2a at the RVI, both children’s wards at the Cumberland Infirmary and is set to donate one to the Special Care Baby Unit at West Cumberland Hospital through local school fundraising.
Greg and Jill Johnston set up Team Evie in 2015, in memory of their daughter Evie, to help poorly children and to support families who face associated challenges. The charity coordinates the only Bereavement Support group for parents in West Cumbria and fundraises for specialist equipment and child friendly resources to be available in children’s wards across the county and the North East.
Greg Johnston, Evie’s dad and co-founder of Team Evie said: “We are so grateful to be in a position to run the book appeal for the third year running. The appeal itself is simple – while you’re doing your Christmas shopping, why not buy a book for children in hospital? When Evie was in hospital, we read stories to her every day and we want to allow other families to do the same for their child.”
The Christmas book appeal launches, along with Team Evie’s new website on 27th October 2017.
