[P]enrith AFC Ladies were dealt a footballing master class by a superb FC United Womens team.
United dominated throughout and despite Penrith’s best efforts they had no answer to their exceptional technique, pace and fitness. Manager Simon Savage said “United were excellent. I cant fault the effort, attitude and commitment of my team however it really did feel like United had 3 extra players on the pitch. They were so composed on the ball and literally never wasted a pass”
The fixture was played on FC United’s fantastic modern stadium in front of a loud and boisterous crowd of 188 FC United supporters. This seemed to unsettle Penrith who appeared to have froze as they conceded 2 sloppy goals in the first 4 mins of the game.
Penrith found their feet and produced a period of gritty defending as they battled to quell the FC United onslaught. Penrith, too, showed glimpses of what they were capable of going forward but without seriously threatening the FC United goal.
FC United eventually extended their lead shortly before half time with 2 quick fire goals.
HT 4-0
FC United made it 5-0 early in the 2nd half and Penrith knew that the game had become a damage limitation exercise. Penrith stuck to their task throughout but as limbs tired FC United took full advantage.
