[A] RAPIST who sprayed bleach in his victim’s face and force-fed her tablets has been warned he faces a “significant” jail term.
Paul James Edward Beattie, 51, went on trial at Carlisle Crown Court earlier this week. He denied a string of allegations which arose out of a prolonged incident at an address in the city on June 3.
Jurors concluded Beattie twice raped the woman, repeatedly spitting at her as he did so having threatened to break her jaw. In between the sex assaults, he sprayed bleach into his victim’s face “three to four times”, leaving her eyes “stinging”.
He also later forced her to eat prescription medication – “which I managed to hide and spit out, thank God”, she told police when interviewed.
Asked by an officer how the ordeal made her feel, the woman replied: “Violated. Degraded. Sickened.”
At the crown court today (FRI), a jury unanimously found Beattie guilty of rape, two assaults and administering a poison or noxious substance with intent.
Judge Peter Davies adjourned the case, asking the probation service to prepare a report which addressed the likely future risk posed to women by Beattie.
Beattie, of Howard Place, Carlisle, was remanded in custody until December 11, when he will be sentenced.
Judge Davies told him: “You must expect a significant and lengthy custody sentence.”
