[A] cordon is in place following a suspected small electrical explosion on Front Street, Brampton.
Police were contacted at 3.59pm today.
A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “Officers are at the scene with colleagues from Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service whilst repairs are ongoing.
“There is no perceived risk to members of the public.
“Police are advising to motorists to avoid the area due to heavy traffic congestion.”
A spokesman for Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 3:59pm firefighters were called to a small explosion in Front Street, Brampton.
“On arrival smoke was coming from a grid.
“It is believed to be a fault with an underground electrical supply.
“Crews were on standby with a hose reel and extinguishers.
“Electricity Northwest were called to isolate the supply.”
