Eden District Councillor Robin Howse (Liberal Democrat Group/Penrith North) has raised £400 for the charity Hospice at Home by taking part in a tandem skydive and freefalling from 14,000ft! The Skydive took place at Cark airfield near Grange in the south of Cumbria
Local community stops cannabis farm near Penrith
The local community at Maulds Meaburn helped prevent crime when they reported suspicious activity at a local property, which resulted in the discovery of a cannabis farm. Members of the public were concerned about suspicious activity taking place at a large mansion house at Maulds Meaburn and reported this to the police.

Penrith students raise £10,000 towards new school minibus
Queen Elizabeth Grammar School’s PTA are very impressed with the students’ efforts to raise money for a much needed minibus. Parents Richard Wise, Deborah Riddell and Jane Holme had challenged the youngsters to raise £10.000 by early May by means of a raffle.

SLDC votes not to hold Land Allocations poll
South Lakeland District Council has voted against holding a poll on its Land Allocations proposals. A petition, submitted by The Green Spaces Committee, had received nearly 4000 signatures asking for the poll which would have asked for a “yes” or “no” on whether the SLDC Land Allocations Document was supported.

RAF winch man off Ill Crag following 50ft fall
Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team were called by Cumbria police yesterday, Wednesday 16 May regarding a 27-year-old man who was scrambling on the Eskdale face of Ill Crag and had sustained a 50ft (15m) tumble fall and was now in pain and could not walk. At 3:30pm the team responded with a full callout
CCTV released of suspected Carlisle cat-napper

A 23-year-old bodybuilder has been sent to prison for attacking a man on a Carlisle street after getting drunk on vodka. Daniel Cayne, of Balfour Road, Raffles, Carlisle, attacked Matthew McDonnell for no apparent reason outside a pizza takeaway in the Crescent at 3am on October 14 last year. Army bomb disposal carry out controlled explosion near Whitehaven

A 16-year-old boy has suffered serious head, back and neck injuries following a road traffic collision on the B6412 Culgaith to Langwathby road last night.
