Whitehaven A continue to chip away at Workington A’s lead

Whitehaven A continue to chip away at Workington A’s lead in the West Cumbria Fours League, which is sponsored by Whitehaven Trophies.

On Friday they beat visitors Maryport 6-1 while the League leaders were also at home and saw off the challenge of Cleator Moor 5-2.

Workington now lead by nine points from their Whitehaven rivals with six games left, although Fitz Park are still in the picture as they have a game in hand and white-washed Workington B on Friday.

Results of games played on 5 July were: Workington A 5, Cleator Moor 2; Seaton 5, Whitehaven B 2; Fitz Park 7, Workington B 0; Whitehaven A 6, Maryport 1.

League standings (Games played and points): Workington A 10-59, Whitehaven A 10-50, Fitz Park 9-47, Cleator Moor 9-36, Maryport 10-35, Seaton 10-25, Workington B 9-18, Vulcan Park 9-17, Whitehaven B 11-13. 

In the West Cumbria Mixed Triples League the quarter-final tie of the Knock-Out Cup between Croft and Cleator Moor was played last Tuesday and it ended in a 9-0 win for the Cockermouth-based club.

There are two outstanding quarter-final ties yet to be completed: Workington v Whitehaven B and Seaton v Harris Park A.

In the league the only result received was from the game between Egremont and Harris Park B which was postponed on 14 May. It was an emphatic 9-0 win for the Cockermouth side to keep Egremont on the foot of the table.

League standings (Games played and points): Workington A 6-47, Whitehaven A 6-38, Croft 7-35, Wigton 5-33, Harris Park A 7-32, Maryport 7-27, Cleator Moor 6-24, Seascale 5-22, Seaton 5-22, Harris Park B 6-22, Whitehaven B 5-21, Vulcan Park 5-11, Egremont 6-8.
