Penrith boy, 12, hurt in Wigton rugby match

7504[A] 12-year-old Penrith boy has been taken to hospital after suffering a suspected spinal injury whilst playing rugby.

At 1:20pm today, Sunday 10 April The Great North’s Air Ambulance, The Pride Of Cumbria were called to assist NWAS with reports of a boy who had sustained a possible spinal injury whilst playing rugby at Wigton Rugby Club.

A spokesman for GNAAS said: “On arrival on scene the aircrew Doctor and Paramedic assisted by NWAS Paramedics assessed and treated a young male for injuries before he was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle by road ambulance.”

His injuries are described as non nife-threatening.
