Carus Green golf club has welcomed a visit by South Lakes MP, Tim Farron, to see the new and improved facilities, following completion of their flood restoration work.

After the deluge of Storm Desmond on 4th December, the popular golf club saw severe water damage on the ground floor, including thousands of pounds worth of soiled stock in the pro shop, yet despite the crisis, they closed their doors for just one day, with staff members and locals pitching in with the ‘clean-up’ operation.

Following a four week period of ‘drying out’, tradesmen – all of whom were local – pulled out all the stops to get the club back up to speed, with new locker rooms, toilets, carpets and a fully re-stocked pro shop now in place.

The half a million pound refurbishment has resulted in a club that looks ‘even better than before’, as owner, Graham Curtin explains: “Storm Desmond was a disaster for so many residents and businesses in Kendal, but we were determined not to let the British weather get the better of us.” he says. “In the days following the flood, staff, locals and members came together to salvage what was possible. We closed for just the one day, remaining open for those who still wished to visit the driving range and other facilities. That was really important to us; as was using Kendal based tradesmen to undertake the work.”

“Carus Green is a massive asset to the local economy, both as a golfing facility and regional employer and I applaud their efforts in recovering from the December floods.” said Tim Farron. “Their resilience to ‘bounce back’ demonstrates – like so many other local businesses affected – the spirit and tenacity of the Cumbrian community.”

“We are delighted with the restored club.” concludes Graham. “The interiors are clean and modern and the pro shop is stocking a wider range from top brands such Titleist, Callaway, Taylormade, Ping and Under Armour. We’re looking forward to the season, further growth and a positive future.”
