Preston North End Ladies 0 – 2 Penrith AFC Ladies

GROUP PHOTOAfter last weeks thrilling win, this weeks performance was a dour affair.

Penrith AFC Ladies ground out a 2 – 0 victory against a resilient Preston North End Ladies team.

It was Preston who started the game on the front foot as Penrith were forced to defend. Gradually Penrith forced their way into the game and were pressing higher up the pitch. This pressing play lead to the opening goal when on 17 mins Nat Broad pounced on slack play in the Preston Ladies defence and powered home a shot from 25 meters.

Preston continued to frustrate Penrith with their high energy game but Penrith looked most likely to extend their lead. On 40 mins Hannah Coulthard made it 2-0 following a flurry of activity after a Penrith corner. Coulthard eventually volleyed the loose ball home.

The 2nd half descended into a midfield battle with neither team creating anything of note. Not much for the spectators to shout about but Penrith were happy to return home with the 3 points.

Captain Kim McCormick played her last game of the season as she, this week, goes under the surgeons knife due to a troublesome knee injury.

Penrith: Jones, Gebbie, Hannah Fawkes, C.Smith, McCormick, Heather Fawkes(Mallinson), Hopton, Coulthard, Broad, Brierley(Nutter), Lorenzi.

This Wed Penrith AFC Ladies travel to neighbours Workington Reds 7.00pm ko at Netherhall Astro turf.
