[K]irkby Lonsdale student Ellie Thompson is heading for Prague to run her first marathon raising money for Breast Cancer Now.

The 19-year-old, who works at The Royal Hotel in the heart of the South Lakes market town, is hoping to top the £1,000 she raised for the same charity last year by cycling from London to Paris.

Ellie, who is studying sports science at Loughborough University, will run in the Czech capital on May 8.

Said Ellie: “I am excited and nervous, but training is going well and so is the fundraising. I have a target of £1,300 and I’m currently on £1,270. The majority of my fundraising has come through The Royal.”

Ellie has a sponsorship form on the bar at the popular hotel, one of the James’ Places group of hospitality businesses.

“The Royal is more of a community than a workplace, I really like working there and I’m very grateful to all the staff, customers, friends and family who have supported me so far.”

General manager of The Royal, Damian Atkins, said: “We are very proud of Ellie at The Royal and we’re looking forward to hearing all about her marathon experience.”

Ellie can be sponsored via her Just Giving page

James’ Places is a portfolio of hotels, inns, interior design and hospitality businesses across the Ribble Valley and Yorkshire Dales sharing the same service values and ethos.
