[A] Barrow man has been jailed for ten years for rape.

Kevin Wyatt, 31, of Egerton Court, was sentenced yesterday (April 26th) at Preston Crown Court after being found guilty at an earlier hearing of two counts of rape against a female victim.

Both incidents of rape occurred at a property in Barrow on November 26th 2015.

Detective Constable Mel McBride, of the Public Protection Unit in South Cumbria, said: “Wyatt is a dangerous man who went to that address with the full intention of committing a sexually motivated attack and subjecting his victim to a harrowing ordeal.

“Rape and sexual offences have a huge impact on victims and their families, and the victim in this case has shown remarkable strength. I hope the sentencing offers some sort of closure for her.

“Cumbria Constabulary is committed to thoroughly and compassionately investigating all reports of rape and serious sexual offences. We will not stop in our drive to bring offenders to justice and hopefully this outcome will help to encourage victims of serious sexual offences to have the confidence to come forward and report it.”
