Penrith AFC Ladies 3 – 1 Workington Reds

wORKINGTON Evie[P]enrith made it 6 wins on the trot with a tough victory against a hard working Workington Reds team.

The heavy fixture schedule seemed to be taking its toll on both teams in the 1st half as the performances were flat and neither team was creating much in front of goal.

Penrith did take the lead on 41 mins when Evie Tonkin made herself some space in the penalty area and fired the ball into the far corner of the net.

Into the 2nd half both teams upped their game and it was Workington who hit back with a deserved equaliser.

Workington were causing problems to Penrith as they pressed high up the pitch and this was unsettling the Penrith defence.

However it was Penrith who again took the lead on 68 mins as Chez Brierley placed the ball in the top corner.

Workington continued to push but Penrith made the game safe in the 76th min when Ruth Hopton fired home from 25 meters.

Penrith are now up to 4th in the league with only 3 games remaining.

Penrith : Jones, Tonkin, Hannah Fawkes, C.Smith, Lorenzi, Heather Fawkes(Brierley), Hopton, Coulthard, Broad, S.Smith, Scott(Gebbie)
