Two people have been flown to hospital after a head-on crash on the A66 near Keswick.
The collision occurred at 4:44pm yesterday, Friday 29 April and involved a Toyota and a Volkswagen Passat.
A spokesman for Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 16:44 firefighters were called to a road traffic collision on the A66 at Portinscale.
“Two vehicles were involved in the collision with a casualty trapped in each.
“Firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to release the casualties who were then handed into the care of the ambulance service.
“They were at the scene for two hours.”
The casualties were flown to the Royal Preston Hospital and the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.
The road was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident.
