[W]e are opening our doors on Thursday 12 May between 10am and 5pm to everyone who would like to find out more about our the work we do to understand and promote the sustainable management of fresh waters.
The event is open to all and is free. Everyone is invited to come along and take a look around our facilities on the shores of Windermere and join in with a wide range of activities, including talks, tours, workshops, demonstrations and hands-on sessions, learn more about the FBA and meet our team of freshwater experts.
You can try your hand at identifying freshwater plants and animals on our taster courses and discover what lies beneath the surface of Windermere with our activities by the lake. Get inspired by science and nature, find out how to monitor your local waterway, hear about the importance of blue-green algae and take part in a discussion about flood management.
Take a tour of our freshwater pearl mussel ark and hear from our project team about our flagship programme to conserve this critically endangered species.
Explore our extensive library, data archives and unique collections, including historic samples from Lake Titicaca, and learn more about the FBA’s freshwater pioneers based at Wray Castle in the 1930s and their global connections. Budding naturalists, students and researchers can attend our workshops on writing scientific publications.
