Police name man who died in A66 crash at Braithwaite

[P]olice can confirm that the man who died on the A66 near Braithwaite on April 29th has been identified as David Bennell, aged 82, from Braithwaite.

Mr Bennell died in the RVI hospital in Newcastle from his injuries, on May 1st.

He was driving a Toyota Avensis saloon when it collided with a blue VW Bora saloon. The 24-year-old driver of the Bora was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital with serious injuries (there is no update on his condition at present).

Specially trained officers are supporting the family of Mr Bennell at this time.

Police are appealing for any witnesses that may have been in the Braithwaite area around the time of the collision who may have seen either vehicle involved in the incident. Anyone with information should contact Cumbria Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
